Loving Scotland!
Having just returned from my 2nd trip to Scotland, and this time touring the Highlands, this book was by far the most complete and comprehensive of any guide book I used. It gave phone numbers, things not to miss, and even included info on "things to do on Skye when it rains" (which it did almost daily). I appreciated the maps and the little historical notes they wrote. I would recommend this book to anyone going to The Highlands for their first - or tenth - time. The only other thing you will need is an English - Gaelic dictionary.

This book was great! i loved it!
it had great charaters. Brice Campbell and Meredith McAplin were truly wonderful and spirited characters. The story about them was perfect and truly a love story and Has a visit from Mary Queen of Scots. I loved Meredith's 2 younger sisters. I love merediths younger sister Megan and think Mrs. Langan should do a book about her. I think anyone who likes a good romance and scotland should read this book.

Highland Clans

If you are interested in the Clans, this is a MUST!!
Of all the words produced on the Clans, this is one of the best. Not a coffee table display, it is a comprehension history of the Highland Clans. There are tons of pictures, and this detailed history of the origins of each clan, maps and the little small details that set it apart from any work on Scotland and the Clans. I have literally worn this poor book down, and on my second copy. Cannot live without.

So if you are interested in the in depth history of the Highland Clans, this is a must for you.

Hoot mon!
Once Napoleon is safely exiled, an American young lady, Lauren Maitland from Boston, is able to travel to London to claim her inheritance. She really didn't want to do such a thing, especially as her fiancé was a casualty in the late war between the United States and Britain, but finds her stay in London to be most enjoyable, in the company of her cousin Hester Kingston, and Hester's husband Alex.

While riding in the park one day, they encounter Rory Ardmore, Earl of Glenvane in Scotland, a long time friend of Alex. Rory's young sister Mary will soon be celebrating her 18th birthday with a large celebration at their home, Castle Glenvane, and an invitation is promptly issued to the Londoners and their guest--and just as promptly accepted. If nothing else, Alex hopes to learn more about his friend's wife, of whom he has previously heard not even a whisper.

Scotland is beautiful, even if some of the inhabitants are not, as Lauren discovers to her dismay. Lady Isabel Maxby has made up her mind to be Rory's second wife, and makes her plans completely clear to the upstart American.

As with all the books from this very gifted author, there are layers and layers of plot and characters, each more engrossing than the last. No one does nasty females or supercilious males quite so well. And of course, being British and right there on the scene (so to speak) enables her to create a remarkably picturesque setting in which to unfold the action. You'll smell the heather and hear the skirl of the pipes with the turning of each page. Simply superb!

Outstanding Historical Sensual Romance
Scotland, 1815 opens this tale when Caitlin Randal after delivering a shipment of smuggled whiskey is mistaken for a 'lady of the night' by Iain Randal, the new laird. The very inebriated Iain might have had his way with her, if not for his cousin David, who whisked Caitlin away before a kiss turned into something else. But, Rand could not forget that one very passionate kiss he had which would haunt him for some time and David knew but would never divulge the name of the girl to Rand. Some time later, on the battlefield at Waterloo, Rand, vowed to the mortally wounded David, who had just saved his life that he would return to Scotland and take care of his friend, the mystery girl of his dreams, Miss Randal of Glenshiel after David finally divulged her name.

Caitlin had sworn to hate and despise this dandy - this English raised laird and she and her smuggling friends were out to make mischief only they underestimated the golden-haired hero of Waterloo. Rand would not be easily bested and would run to ground the young man, Dirk Gordan, who was really Caitlin in disguise.

Having met Caitlin, Rand was enthralled with her startling beauty, this free spirited and independent slip of a girl, would tempt him as no other woman ever had. It soon became apparent that he and Caitlin, with her wicked and saucy tongue would need to be tamed and he would be just the man to tame her. Caitlin, could no more control her responses to Rand - then he could with her - yet the ... granddaughter of the Randal of Glenshiel was sworn to hate the upstart English raised laird.

This was a marvelous romantic and extremely sensuous story of two very passionate individuals - Caitlin sensitive, strong, Scot to the core, and caught up in the everyday struggles of living as a highlander under an oftentimes absent English laird who couldn't or wouldn't commit to the responsibilities of being the laird Randal. The story was very rich in historical content and also had the element of suspense as old and new murders had to be solved in order to right the wrongs of the past and end the feuds that continually tore the highlands and kept Iain and Caitlin from achieving a true and lasting love. This story had outstanding sensual imagery and very fast moving action. Great story - surprising ending.

What a FIND!!
My husband and I found this book while visiting the Living Museum in Ireland. The lady who wrote the book founded the museum, and you can see everything that she talks about right there.

We are living historians in the States and we find this book to be outstanding. It touches on everything in the daily life of the Highland Scots. (from ancient drop spindles to a horizontal water wheel to house construction!!)

We have ordered extra copies for our friends.

Highland Heart (Harlequin Historical, No 111)

Author: Ruth Ryan Langan

it's my pleasure to be the first one to review this book
First of all, Ruth Langan is such a good writer. This story was one of the best I've read in Harlequin books. Jamie and Lindsey are one of the best characters I've read. Lindsey is not the typical heroine character. She is truly sincere, lonely, and vulnerable. And Jamie on the other hand, is just the guy you'd want to marry. They're perfect 4 each other. The story is somewhat complicated but it just have a great plot. You wont get bored reading this. Give it a chance.

Wonderful story full of history
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it reminded me of what I love in a romance - real history. Set during and after the Glen Coe massacre, Virginia Brown informs and entertains us as the romance between Lianna and Cameron unfolds. I hope there are more books like this to follow.
